Artist: Di Bresciani

Di Bresciani’s landscapes and colourful abstract improvisations in oil inspired Gerard Vaughan, AM Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur (Previous director National Gallery of Victoria and Canberra National Gallery) to say at Di’s 2012 book launch at the University of Melbourne...

“The relationship between music and painting, and especially music and colour has defined absolutely, the kind of artist Di has become”. (Book available via Di’s website)

“Di’s profound understanding of music and art give her an unerring and intuitive sense of judgement.” – Piers Lane AO

“A fine example of Australian visual arts and a wonderful representation of the White Light of the Australian Bush” – The Hon Alexander Downer AC, Australian High Commission London.

“Di’s canvases explore the fleeting manifestations and rhythms of light in the natural world, while other simple abstract compositions often produce a contemplative or meditative response in the viewer.” – Sue Smith – Curator 2012

For most of her life Di has worked in the visual arts, and since 1990 has exhibited regularly. Today her work is held in many collections both nationally and internationally.

Di is enamoured with colour and effects that can suggest something marvellous and timeless. It transports you to another plane. Like Van Gogh, Di wants to Paint the way music makers her feel.

Di Bresciani completed a Music Degree at the University of Melbourne and subsequently obtained a Doctor of philosophy in Music and Psychology undertaken with a Post Graduate Research Scholarship. In the 1980’s her research achieved international recognition, culminating in an invitation to visit the USSR by Dimitri Kabalevsky.

In 1988 Di founded the Youth Music Foundation of Australia Inc (YMF) which is affiliated with leading music/arts institutions in Australia, Italy, the US and the UK. In 2003 Di was selected Woman Achiever of the Year by the Australian Brain Foundation. Di is a life member of the Melba Trust Foundation, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Music Teachers, a senior adjudicator for the Australian Music Examinations Board, a Fellow and a Life Governor of University College, Melbourne, an honorary Fellow of the Institute of Music Teachers, a Governor of the Florey and Mental Health Research Institute, Founder and Managing Director YMF and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
